Challenge:
Drinking water is an important feature in any building design. In psychiatric facilities, patient safety is of the highest concern, and something as simple as a drinking fountain needs to take patient safety into consideration. Filtrine worked closely with healthcare professionals and hospital design professionals to address the unique problems that arise when serving drinking water in this type of specialized medical facility.

Solution:
In collaboration with healthcare professionals and healthcare facility designers, Filtrine’s engineers designed a bottle filling station specifically for use in mental health facilities. Filtrine modified the existing design of the Model B103 bottle filling station to address the specific needs of a mental hospital. As ligature resistance was a requirement of any equipment to be installed in medium and high risk areas, Filtrine proposed an angled top cover over the access door. The 100% heavy gauge stainless steel construction offers durability, cleanliness, and ease of maintenance.
Unlike other bottle filling stations on the market, the Filtrine Model B103-HR (Approved by NYS OMH Patient Safety Standards) doesn’t contain any plastic or rubber components. Plastic and rubber, even those materials treated with so-called “anti-microbial” agents, can still buildup a residue that requires constant maintenance and cleaning. These plastic parts are also not suitable for a hospital setting where infection control is of paramount concern. Filtrine offers the most durable drinking water fixture for use in these facilities.
From north to south, many hospitals across the country have been installing the Filtrine Model B103-HR to give their patients and staff 24/7 access to drinking water.
