Filtrine Supports a Local Welding Training Program
For over 110 years, Filtrine has been committed to building quality equipment in the US. Filtrine’s chillers for medical, industrial and bakery applications are custom built by carefully trained craftsmen and women. This requires special skills and years of experience.
Twenty years ago, Filtrine reached out to the Keene Community Education Program to see if there was interest in a welding class, hoping this could inspire potential employees and serve as a recruiting tool. Each year a variety of students sign up for the 10 week program. From artists to high schoolers interested in a welding career, they use Filtrine equipment on Filtrine’s shop floor to hone their welding skills for three hours each week.
As a result of this initiative, Filtrine Manufacturing Company was selected by the New Hampshire Business Review’s editor as one of the state’s best companies with which to do business. The Best of Business Awards, known as the BOBs, recognize companies in over 90 business-to-business categories. Filtrine was singled out as an editor’s pick in the category of Best Effort by Company to Revive NH’s Welder Workforce.
Filtrine’s welding program is also featured in The “Just One Thing” Campaign sponsored by New Hampshire Businesses for Social Responsibility. The purpose is to challenge New Hampshire businesses to consider incorporating a sustainability initiative into their operations.
To continue this effort to train the local workforce, Filtrine recently started offering a welding apprenticeship program through Cheshire Career Center in Keene. Three students are being mentored by Filtrine’s welders.
Filtrine uses mostly US parts and builds the chillers to fit the application not the other way around. To meet some of Filtrine’s employees, see the Craftsmanship section of Filtrine’s website.
