Filtrine Designed a Bottle Filling Station with Safety Features for High Risk Areas
Drinking water is an important feature in any building design. However, in psychiatric facilities patient safety is also of the highest concern. For even something as simple as a drinking fountain, manufacturers need to take that into consideration. Filtrine worked closely with healthcare professionals and hospital design professionals to address the unique problems that arise when serving drinking water in this type of specialized medical facility.
Listed below are the key safety features that healthcare professionals had requested for their drinking water equipment.
Healthcare Professionals’ High Risk Drinking Water Equipment Requirements |
1. Ligature Resistance |
2. Security |
3. Durability |
4. Infection Control |
5. Ease of Maintenance |
In response to these requirements, Filtrine modified the existing design of the Filtrine Model B103 water bottle filler station (also known as a Hydration Station). Since ligature resistance was critical for equipment to be installed in medium and high risk areas, Filtrine proposed an angled top cover over the access door. Another key factor is 100% heavy gauge stainless steel construction finished with white enamel powder coat which offers durability, cleanliness, and ease of maintenance.
Unlike other bottle filling stations (on the market, the Filtrine model doesn’t contain any plastic or rubber components. Plastic and rubber, even when treated with so-called “anti-microbial” agents, can build up a residue that requires constant maintenance and cleaning. These materials are not suitable for a hospital setting where infection control is of paramount concern.
From north to south, many psychiatric hospitals across the country have been installing the Filtrine Model B103-HR (published in the latest New York State OMH Patient Safety Standards) to give their patients and staff 24/7 safe access to drinking water. Filtrine offers the most durable drinking water fixture for use in these facilities.
